Why Volunteer at Home-Start St.Helens?

Case Studies
I have been at Service Care Solutions for over 6 years now. I have grown from a Trainee Recruitment Consultant at the age of 22 to a Divisional Director of the Social Work Division. I am a great believer of training and development to aid and support an individual to grow and progress and so are Service Care Solutions.

On achieving Team Manager Richard our MD approached me and suggested that I become a Trustee on a charity board to further develop my skills and input my current knowledge and skills into a local charity. I started my search and that’s when I came across Home-Start St. Helens. I applied, interviewed and was successful on becoming a trustee. I have now been a Trustee for 18 months and I have gained some really valuable experience from this. I have also been able to use my knowledge and experience and give some valuable input into the charity. I know they are very thankful for my support as it’s been a challenging year for the charity.

Volunteering my time into Home-Start St. Helens has really changed my thinking into the how important it is to help our local community. Home-Start St. Helens support families to increase their confidence and independence in everyday life. Every volunteer within the Charity play an important part in supporting the local community and supporting social services.

I spent my first year of University volunteering for Hallam Union. I went into primary schools to conduct PE lessons with children where the schools were in a deprived area. To see the children’s faces when I turned up at the school was overwhelming as the excitement of doing something new and different and having a different teacher really inspired them. It was tough at times as some of the children were difficult to teach as they struggled to listen but the lessons I did there really supported and developed the children.

Home-Start St.Helens are looking for volunteers for their September intake. We have recently won a tender which has given us the opportunity to support families with young children within the community with the Local Authority. Volunteering at Home-Start St.helens will give you:

• Confidence
• Skills for employment
• Make a difference whilst your child is in school
• Paid travel expenses
• Working with families training course

Do you have a spare 3 hours per week to support a local family? Do you want to make a difference to a families life? If so please contact the Home-Start St. Helens office on 01744 737400.
