Job description: Arborist - Preston

We are currently recruiting for an arborist within a local council. The purpose of this post is to carry out various aspects of skilled practical and technical arboriculture work within the Preston area to a high standard.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:


*To work with the Council's Tree Officer and the Arborist Team

*To carry out Arboricultural operations and routine tree maintenance

*To carry out pruning in accordance with BS 3998 (2010) - tree work recommendations

*Making dangerous trees safe

*Be prepared to work in emergencies / out of hours

*To carry out work efficiently, effectively and safely in accordance with current health and safety legislative requirements

*To accurately complete all relevant paperwork pertaining to tree works instructions is essential

*To communicate effectively with customers, contractors and partner organisations

*To keep abreast of new techniques and methods



When applying for this role it is essential that you have the following


*City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross Cutting (Formerly CS30)
*City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Ground Based Chainsaw Operator (Formerly CS30 & CS31)
*City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award in Tree Climbing and Rescue (Formerly CS38)
*City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw using Free Fall techniques (Formerly CS39)

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

*Ability to work in a team
*Tree Identification
*Able to work on own initiative with minimum supervision
*Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation

Experience:

*Experience of tree climbing and aerial tree operations
*Experience of tree pruning and felling

Special Requirement:

*Willingness to attend emergency call outs
*To advise management if you are prescribed/take any medication which may affect your ability to undertake the duties of the post e.g. Beta-blockers which affect your ability to judge risk, or any medication which may cause drowsiness or specifies do not operate machinery.
*Current full driving licence.


Working hours : Full time - 36.25 hours per week. Monday - Friday 7.30 am - 15.15 pm
