Job description: Arrears Officer
A large Devon-based housing association are recruiting for an Arrears officer to maximise income through recovery of rental arrears and sundry debts from tenants, covering a patch in Devon. The role will be based in Newton Abbott.

The Role
The focus of the role is to maximise the income to the housing association by control and recovery of rent arrears, including sundry debts where early efforts to recover debts have failed. This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Take responsibility for the control and recovery of rent arrears across all tenures within a defined range of cases.
*Liaise with The housing association's Asset and Housing services teams for good customer management and support court actions with these teams, offering expertise and advice around court procedures.
*Follow The housing association's policies, procedures and statutory requirements. Work towards meeting objectives and targets.
*Conduct debt and pre-court visits with tenants and manage arrears cases through the court process ensuring compliance with the pre action protocol.
*Deliver a customer focussed service responding effectively, concisely and appropriately with all customers both internal and external.
*Represent The housing association at court with rent arrears cases in a defined area and provide cover for courts in other areas when necessary.
*Keep up to date and seek to continuously improve the services provided by the Income Services Team, including delivery of the financial inclusion strategy.
*Signpost customers in difficulties to relevant support services.
*Work with their Locality team to deliver the team, directorate and organisations business plans.
*Representing the housing association with Local Authority partners about housing benefit entitlements and liaison meetings.
*Representing the housing association with the Department of Work and Pensions in relation to Universal Credit.
*Work in partnership with stakeholders and partners to develop good practice in this service area.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require previous experience of income collection within social housing as well as Knowledge and Understanding of; Welfare Benefits system and Welfare Reform; Pre Court Protocol for Rent Arrears and and PCOL system

The Contract
This is a full time role, working hours per week on an initial month contract that has a chance of being extended.
