Job description: Service Care Solutions are looking for an Assistant Data Protection Officer for a vacancy which has become available at the Police HQ in Portishead.

To ensure that the Constabulary meets its obligations with regards to Data Protection legislation.
Main responsibilities:

*Ensure the collation of all appropriate information in relation to disclosures and risk assess as required in
accordance with legislation, policy and guidance.
*To receive assess and decide on the level of disclosure of information required to be released under the appropriate legislation and/or policy
* Make disclosure decisions or in the most complex cases seek professional and/or legal advice.
* Respond appropriately to enquiries/requests for disclosure.
* Represent the Unit at various regional meetings concerning disclosure or its constituent parts as required.
* To maintain a record management system, for audit purposes and possible legal challenges and disputes of all disclosures made, with their justification.
* Develop and maintain appropriate systems to facilitate disclosures in accordance with current legislation.
* Provide professional advice and guidance to all members of the Constabulary at all levels, on issues concerning
the disclosure of information, including sensitive or personal information as required by the Data Protection Act 1998
*Manage the Force requirements under MoPI in relation to the development and management of Information Sharing Agreements with partner agencies or other external bodies.
* Investigate reports of data breaches and assist the Force Data Protection Officer (Compliance) with investigations required for referrals to the ICO.
* Deputise for the Force Data Protection Officer (Compliance) in their absence.

Essential experience:

* The post holder must be computer literate and should have substantial knowledge of The Data Protection Act 1998, the Human Rights Act 1998 and any other relevant legislation. Experience of disclosure work in a similar type of organisation is
also essential.
* Supervisory experience along with experience of implementing new processes and in engaging with Stakeholders is essential.
* Ability to work to tight timescales and prioritise work.


The post holder must hold a professional qualification in a relevant subject e.g. the ISEB certificate in Data Protection.

This is a police-based role, so applicants will be subject to police security checks.
It is advised that applicants have a clean DBS/CRB within the last 3 years.
