Job description: Benefits Assessment Officer, Cambridge. TWO VACANCIES

I am currently recruiting for two Benefits Assessment Officer vacancies in Cambridge. As a Benefits Assessment Officer based in Cambridge you will require a sound knowledge of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit Regulations and have an excellent working knowledge of MS Office and bespoke IT systems.

Your key responsibilities within this role will include:
-Ensuring that all claims for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit are processed accurately and within the targeted timescales by correctly calculating income and rent details and inputting the personal details of claimants onto the computer system.
-Amending, cancelling and suspending benefit claims effectively, to avoid underpayment/over-payment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit.
-Ensuring that Housing and Council Tax Benefit has been correctly assessed and paid to the claimant by cheque or credited to their rent/or Council Tax account.
-Liaising with the Housing Department, Housing Societies, DWP and the Benefits Agency, in order to facilitate the quick and accurate assessment of Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Benefit.
-Providing support, guidance and specialist advice to the Customer Services Centre on all aspects of Housing & Council Tax Benefits.
-Referring any suspicions of internal or external fraud or abuse of the Benefit system and/or Council Tax system to the Fraud Prevention Team.
-Ensuring that all information relating to Benefits claimants remains confidential and not disclosed to any unauthorised person/s, paying particular attention to the Data Protection Act.

These are full time vacancies, working 37 hours per week on an 11-month contract.
