Job description: Benefits Assessment Officer - St Austell, Cornwall

I am currently recruiting for 4x Benefits Assessment Officer in St Austell, Cornwall. This is a full time position working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. This position is being offered on a homeworking basis, however you would be required to work on site at the Cornwall office for the first week. Following this and subject to satisfactory performance during this week on site you would be issued with the required equipment to work from home.

The main purpose of the position

To assist in providing an efficient customer focused Benefit Service with responsibility for the assessment and payment of Housing and Council Tax Benefit, under the direction of the Benefit Team Leader. To have a thorough, in depth knowledge of the requirements of the Housing and Council Tax Benefit Regulations, as well as a broad understanding of all other Department for Work and Pensions benefit regulations e.g. Disability Living Allowance, Carers Allowance, Jobseekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, HM Revenues and Customs Tax Credits and Child Benefit and the Pension Service Pension Credit.

Main Accountabilities

*Assess and determine all types and tenures of Housing and Council Tax Benefit claims, including reconsiderations, to ensure compliance with legislation, Council policy and procedures within agreed timescales.
*Undertake all telephone, face to face and other enquiries as required, including the ability to signpost and promote other welfare benefits to ensure service performance outcomes and excellent customer satisfaction.
*Ensure that all communication is undertaken accurately, clearly and quickly to the public and other persons affected by telephone, in writing and in person to ensure excellent customer satisfaction.
*Contribute to the team's targets by processing a significant volume of work covering a wide range of cases from simple to complex with speed and a high degree of accuracy. To contribute to the clearance of claims and changes in circumstances within statutory time periods and minimising subsidy losses.
*Maintain awareness of overpayment recovery procedures and instigate recovery from ongoing benefit, considering underlying entitlement, to ensure compliance with legislation and assist customers who are required to repay benefits.
