Job description: I am currently recruiting for a Benefits Assessment Officer based in Hailsham, East Sussex. This is a full time position working 37 hours a week.

The job purpose is to Provide advice and support to customers making a claim for benefits. Undertake necessary administrative duties to calculate entitlement to and award payments of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction. Liaise with customers and their representatives, landlord or other third parties as required to ensure payments and awards are correct.

Some of your key accountabilities will include -

* Provide advice to customers face-to-face, over the phone, or in writing on all aspects of their claim for benefit including payment details, overpayment recovery, calculation of entitlement, underlying entitlement, revisions and appeals.
* Support the training of Benefits Officers by providing advice and guidance on customer queries that they cannot resolve themselves.
* Accurately assess entitlement to and make awards of Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction and Alternative Maximum Council Tax Reduction.
* Make decisions on customer requests for backdated benefit.
* Identify and take action to ensure that overpayments of benefit are recovered.
* Provide regular advice and support to Benefits Officers, to enhance development of their experience and skills.
* Maintain an awareness of benefit subsidy issues and ensure awards of benefit are in accordance with subsidy guidance.
