Job description: Benefits Assessment Officer, Redditch
A local authority in Redditch are recruiting for an experienced Benefit assessor required to undertake assessment of all tenure types using the Civica processing system, as well as provide telephone support, on an initial 3 month contract.

The Role
This focus of this role is to assess applications for housing benefit, from council tenants, using the Civica system. You will also be required to:
-Ensuring that all claims for Housing Benefit are processed accurately and within the targeted timescales by correctly calculating income and rent details and inputting the personal details of claimants onto the computer system.
-Amending, cancelling and suspending benefit claims effectively, to avoid underpayment/overpayment of Housing Benefit.
-Ensuring that Housing Benefit has been correctly assessed and paid to the claimant by cheque or credited to their rent/or Council Tax account.
-Liaising with the Housing Department, Housing Societies, DWP and the Benefits Agency, in order to facilitate the quick and accurate assessment of Housing Benefit
-Providing support, guidance and specialist advice to the Customer Services Centre on all aspects of Housing Benefits.
-Referring any suspicions of internal or external fraud or abuse of the Benefit system to the Fraud Prevention Team.
-Ensuring that all information relating to Benefits' claimants remains confidential and not disclosed to any unauthorised person/s, paying particular attention to the Data Protection Act.
-The telephone support will involve dealing with all incoming calls to the Benefit Section from customers, landlords and other affected parties

The Candidate
Only applicants with previous Housing Benefits assessment experience need apply for this vacancy, as this is a temporary role the client is seeking a candidate who can hit the ground running. Experience using the Civica system is preferable, but experience using similar systems would also be considered.

The Contract
This is an initial 3 month contract with potential to be extended. The role is full time, working 37 hours per week.
