Job description: Benefits Officer - Oakham
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Benefits Officer for a local authority in Oakham. This is a two-year contract replacing a permanent leaver from the Revenues & Benefits department.

The Role
The focus of this position is to ensure accurate and efficient assessment of Housing Benefits, Council Tax Support, Discretionary Housing Payments, Discretionary Crisis Support and Council Tax Support, in line with legislation of the Local Authority.
Your main responsibilities within this position will include:
-Deputising for the team leader as required
-Providing advice to the Revenues and Benefits manager
-Administer policies and procedures for the processing of benefits and charges
-Dealing with customer enquiries from customers regarding benefits and providing accurate advice, via the phone and face to face
-Deal with correspondence and queries from claimants, landlords and colleagues
-Assist the Assistant Revenues & Benefits Manager to prepare appeal cases for tribunal

The Candidate
To be successful within this position it is essential that you have prior experience as a Benefits Officer and have an excellent working knowledge of Housing and Council Tax benefits and support. Therefore, you will also have experience of processing benefits and working with claimants and landlords. This will enable you to accurately explain benefit entitlement to customers.
Furthermore, you will require GCSEs in Maths and English, and you will also need to be highly IT proficient with experience of updating and extracting data from bespoke IT systems.
Ideally, you will have experience of working with CIVICA and MS OFFICE.

The Contract
This is a full-time role, on a two-year fixed-term contract. The salary ranges between £20-23,000 depending on experience.
I am also recruiting for the same role on a three-month contract to assist with an increase in workload.
