Job description: My client, a local authority based in Leicestershire, is looking for a Building Control Surveyor to join their team. This is a part time, temporary ongoing agency contract and the successful candidate will have a full UK driving licence, a degree level qualification and experience in a building control function.

The main purpose of the role is to assess planning applications and ensure that structures subject to planning comply with Building Regulations in their construction.

Other responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

*Act as a case officer and engage with prospective applicants and agents and members of the public in relation to Building Control applications
*Give appropriate and timely responses to customer enquiries on Building Control matters
*Manage and supervise work in connection with a range of Building Control functions, vetting domestic plan, carrying out site inspections, dealing with dangerous structures and demolitions
*Assess and manage small and medium commercial applications and carry out site visits
*Liaise with colleagues and professional staff at all levels across the Directorate on a range of issues
*Deliver projects within the context of sometimes conflicting objectives to ensure the most effective solution for the council
*Produce accurate reports in relation to the work undertaken and the prepare technical and survey material

The main skills and experience the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate will be as follows;

*Managing own challenging workload effectively, meeting targets without compromising quality
*Producing clear and precise reports on a variety of information
*Influencing outcomes and negotiating solutions
*Communicating with colleagues and professional staff at all levels
*Interpreting and applying the full range of the Building Regulations in complex and conflicting areas, including complex regulatory areas
*Dealing with enforcement without supervision
*Undertaking site visits/inspections of property and land
*Using IT databases for the collection and interpretation of property information
*Working with other Local Authorities and external agencies to deliver high quality outcomes
*Carrying out Structural Surveys
*Dealing with complex Building Regulations and matters relating to dangerous structures
*Dealing positively and objectively to people in difficult and challenging situations
