Job description: A Local Authority based in Essex is looking for a Repairs Surveyor to join their team. This is a full time, temporary agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant qualification (HNC/D), proven experience in domestic/residential repairs programmes and ideally experience in a similar local authority setting.

The main purpose of the role is to contribute to developing the clients vision through ensuring that homes are well maintained and customers receive a high quality service from contractors.

The main additional responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

To inspect the housing stock, including leasehold flats to evaluate works required to specify materials, work content, trades and working practices involved and place the work with suitable contractor.
To control, instruct and monitor contractors and their workforce to ensure correct materials are used and workmanship is to required standards and in compliance with Health and Safety.
To carry post inspections of works undertaken by the Council's responsive repairs contractors and to arrange for rectification of any substandard works identified. To arrange for any refund or credit note for any overcharging of works that is identified.
To be the responsible officer for arranging forced entry into dwellings, including leasehold flats, to rectify any escape of water or the like to prevent damage or a health and safety risk to adjoining properties or public areas. To liaise with contractors, estate management section and police as appropriate.
To authorise payments and maintain adequate records to comply with the Council's Financial Regulations and Standing Orders
To carry our Fire Risk Assessments to communal areas in flat blocks as directed. To carry out stock condition and HHSRS surveys as required.
To assist in the serving of section 20 notices for responsive repair works by providing information to the Home Ownership team as required.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Professional qualification or equivalent experience
Background of building surveying or maintenance
Experience of monitoring programmes and budgets
Knowledge of building and service contract administration and contract law
Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including CDM regulations.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such is offering a rate of £18 p/hour Umbrella Ltd. (Approx. £470 take home pay per week after all deductions).
