Job description: A Local Authority based in Essex is looking for a Building Surveyor to join their team. This is a full time, temporary agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant building surveyor qualification, proven experience with housing and residential surveys, extensive experience using AutoCAD and ideally experience in a similar local authority setting.

The main purpose of the role is to undertake residential housing surveys to establish defects and be able to determine and arrange the most appropriate repairs necessary through the Council's existing contracts. Use of Auto Cad is also required for this role to completed technically proficient drawing suitable for planning and building control applications.

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

To undertake all building surveyor functions to ensure the Council discharges all statutory duties as a Landlord, including but not limited to the appropriate management of Asbestos.
To be responsible for providing technical specifications required to support effective and efficient procurement of works and services to support delivery of Housing Investment and Development Asset management programmes.
The post holders will be responsible for undertaking condition and structural surveys. Along with providing technical advice to clients, take clients briefs, prepare feasibility studies and drawings in compliance with Building Regulations and Planning policies.
The post holders will be required to carry out assessments of grant and loan applications for grant and loan calculation and preparation of comparative estimates, including quantitative analysis, along with pre-approval visits
To be responsible for site supervision of grant and loan aided work and valuations for interim and final payment ensuring quality and financial control.
To be responsible for site surveys, levelling and preparation of drawings, specifications and estimates, relevant to implementation of minor or major adaptations

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Hold an appropriate surveying / maintenance qualification BTEC Level 3 or equivalent.
Substantial experience of the capital work, repairs and maintenance of buildings and on housing estates working as part of a team.
Ability to draw plans and elevations
Personal credibility to work appropriately and effectively with politicians and other Senior Managers, other staff, the public and outside agencies.
Communicates clearly, simply and effectively. Can influence and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences.
Manages conflicting and competing priorities effectively and can organise the workload under pressure
Undertake site and building surveys to identify building defects
Prepare plans and drawings for repairs and investment works, specify and supervise works

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such is offering a negotiable rate of at least £22 - £25 p/hour Umbrella Ltd dependant on skills and qualifications. (Approx. £560 - £630 take home pay per week after all deductions).
