Job description: Job Role: Business Assurance Officer
Hours: 37 hours/week
Location: Seaham, County Durham
Contract Duration: 12 months FTC

My client are seeking to recruit a Business Assurance Officer on an initial fixed term basis for twelve months with a view to a permanent appointment subject to an on-going review of the service area.

This is a new position within the wider Governance, Risk and Assurance team following a restructure. The Business Assurance Officer (Risk) will have operational responsibility for the development and maintenance of a robust risk management and assurance framework for the Group.

You will work jointly with the Group Governance and Assurance Manager, Executive Management Team and Heads of Service to develop risk registers, controls assurance strategies and early warning indicators. You will supervise and oversee the insurance and business continuity function on behalf of the Manager, providing support surrounding the oversight and reporting of Business Risk, Assurance and Compliance activities across the organisation.


*Work jointly with the Group Governance and Assurance Manager in the development, integration and review of an effective risk management framework and value adding controls assurance activity.
*Work with the Group Governance and Assurance Manager and Head of Performance and Strategy to ensure the key strategic risks are considered as part of the corporate planning process, are accurately reflected in Group strategies and the performance management framework.
*Support the Group Governance and Assurance Manager in the development and implementation of an integrated risk and assurance model, suite of risk scorecards and early warning indicators.
*Examine key processes, risks and controls, constructively challenge control weaknesses and identify control improvements across the Group.
*Provide support in the preparation and implementation of a risk management toolkit, embedding risk management in action across the Group.
*Work in conjunction with the Group Governance and Assurance Manager, Head of Performance and Strategy and the Business Development Team Leader to develop risk assessments, monitoring and reporting processes for the Group's strategic projects.
*Prepare Board, Audit Committee, EMT and Heads of Service reports in conjunction with the Group Governance and Assurance Manager in relation to strategic, operational and project risk registers, planned reviews of the Group's risk management framework, policy and appetite and quarterly risk updates on the business assurance activity.
*Coordinate the meetings of the Risk Management Working Group (RMWG), chairing the RMWG as required and ensuring new, emerging or escalating risk exposures are discussed.
*Manage the Business Assurance Officer (Business Continuity) in ensuring appropriate business continuity and insurance arrangements are in place for the Group.
*Support the Group Governance and Assurance Manager in the oversight and monitoring of actual performance versus the approved annual internal audit plan.
*Attending audit planning meetings and ensuring the agreed fieldwork / reporting timetables are achieved.
*Develop and maintain an audit recommendation tracking system ensuring periodic progress reports are provided to Group Directors, Heads of Service and delegated responsible officers.
*Perform a quarterly evidence based follow up of all audit recommendations raised providing assurance to the Audit Committee / EMT that recommended controls are implemented within agreed target dates.
