Job description: My client, a local authority based in Central Bedfordshire is looking for a Clerk of Works to join their team. This is a full time, temporary role for at least 6 months and the successful candidate will have a relevant professional qualification, a CSCS card and a full UK driving licence as travel will be required.

The main purpose of the role is to monitor the work of companies that carry out construction contracts for the Council and its customers and deliver high quality construction projects that are value for money.

Other duties will include the following;

Inspect the Contract Documentation and pro-actively monitor various aspects of the works against that documentation
Keep detailed written records and producing weekly reports for the Contract Administrator/Employers Agent to ensure projects are completed within the timescale, scope, quality and costs agreed
Record progress, workers on site, weather conditions, visitors to the site, drawings received, deliveries, instructions and significant events
During visits particular attention is to be paid to workmanship
Attend monthly Site Meetings and present a monthly Clerk of Works Report, giving an overview of the weekly reports from the previous weeks.
Advise on possible alternative construction details whilst works are carried out, to provide quality and value for money solutions to client groups.
Take appropriate action to deal with issues and variances as required through working closely with the Contract Administrator/Employers Agent
Minimise risk of litigation e.g. disputes with Contractors or claims from the Public by utilising sound judgement.
Issue Witness Statements and/or be available to attend Court on relevant matters, as and when required.
Carrying out defects liability inspections and produce reports (Defects Lists)
Monitor the progress of Making Good of Defects using a dated Tracked Defects List and delivering that updated list to the Contract Administrator/Employers Agent, for Contractor notification.
Advise contractors, developers, clients on the Council's requirements concerning materials, workmanship and safety of the public.
Comply with council policies, standing orders, financial regulations, Quality Assurance and ensure adherence to statutory compliance processes and procedures (including health and safety)
