Job description: A local authority based in South Wales is looking for an Assistant Clerk of Works to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant Construction qualification, ideally HNC/D, extensive experience with New Build Housing projects and ideally a strong background in local authority contracts.

The main purpose of the role is to support the Senior Clerk of Works on a number of current and future new build projects for the client.

The main responsibilities and experience needed to undertake the role are as follows;

Review architect's drawings and specifications to assess technical content and compliance with the clients Design Guide and Technical Brief.
Inspect properties at all key stages of construction.
Make regular site visits to projects under construction as appropriate, with regular weekly site inspections in addition as required.
Monitor and report on all aspects of Health & Safety on site in line with current legislation
Provide weekly reports to the Housing Development Team, Lead Consultant and Employers Agent, recording progress of labour on site, materials on site, weather conditions, welfare facilities and any Health & Safety incidents on site for each project under construction.
Liaise regularly with the Housing Development Team, regarding progress of work on site and any issues impacting on costs, quality or programme.
Monitor the quality of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings and conditions of contract

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

NVQ3/HNC in construction or compliance related studies, or equivalent substantial experience.
IT literate, proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
Excellent understanding of construction related health and safety legislation and its application.
Previous experience in a Clerk of Works or similar role supporting the development function for a Local Authority or Housing Association.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering a rate of £19 p/hr Umbrella Ltd (Approx. £490 p/week NET after deductions) for the duration of the assignment.
