Job description: My client based in Lambeth has a new position available for a Conservation and Urban Design Officer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary position and the successful candidate will hold a full UK driving licence and will hold a relevant professional qualification.

The main Purpose of this role is to contribute fully to the strategic planning and regeneration process by providing specialist advice on conservation, urban design and historic buildings such that: the historic and architectural fabric of the borough is safeguarded, enhanced and makes a positive contribution to the renewal of the Borough; and ensure that the highest possible design standards are achieved in new developments and public urban projects.

1.To provide specialist advice on all matters relating to urban design, listed buildings and conservation areas and the borough's built heritage, with particular responsibility in relation to urban design policies and quality of urban development.

2.To assist in the review of the Client's conservation areas, bringing forward proposals for new designations, partial de-designations and extensions, including the preparation of conservation area appraisals & enhancement strategies.

3.To be responsible for providing advice to Development Control on Listed Building Consents, Conservation Area Consents and design issues related to the determination of planning applications.

4.To promote conservation led regeneration initiatives. Formulating and implementing an integrated approach with English Heritage and other partners to ensure the delivery of social and economic regeneration through the Borough's built and historic fabric.

5.To compile and manage the publication of conservation area design guides, character statements, enhancement schemes and Article 4 Directions identified as appropriate by the Team Leader.

6.To assist in the setting up and maintenance of an information database, including photographic and other archival records relating to Listed Buildings, Listed Buildings At Risk and Conservation Areas.

7.To draft statements of case on urban design and/or conservation issues for appeals heard by way of written representation.

8.To provide professional advice to Members, senior officers, developers, architects and other agents, and the public on all aspects of conservation and related issues, including attendance at public meetings.

9.To contribute to the service's strategic planning function, which promotes the Client's regeneration framework and provides an integral approach to development, regeneration and policy issues.

10.To maintain a current knowledge of relevant law, policies, working practices and procedures.

11.To plan, programme and prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines, targets and timetables.

12.To carry out any other similar or related duties that may be required from time to time.

13.At all times to carry out the post's responsibilities with due regard to the Council's policies regarding Equal Opportunities, Diversity, Health and Safety and Data Protection Acts and undergo any training as may be required in relation to these policies.

14.To attend meetings outside normal office hours as required.
