Job description: Are you ready to actively make a difference to a young person's life? Do you have experience working with vulnerable, challenging young people? If your answer is yes to both of these questions then this could be the role for you.

The Role:

This is a challenging yet extremely rewarding role were you will be working closely with a caseload of young offenders who are on remand or sentenced. You will be responsible for establishing positive individualised relationships that encourage the young people to take advice and ownership of their rehabilitation plan. As a Custodial Care Officer, the successful applicant will be acting as a link between community and internal agencies to ensure robust training and release plans are in place. You will also be providing a comprehensive resettlement service for young people, ensuring that sustainable plans are in place prior to discharge in respect of accommodation, education/training, primary medical care and financial support.

This position is based on a rotational shift work pattern where you will be working both day and night shifts as well as including working every other weekend. There will be 7 weeks of paid training for all successful applicants, which will provide you with the qualities to become an effective Custodial Care Officer. You will also require an Enhanced DBS for this position.

Requirements:

In order to be considered for this role you must have either previous experience working with vulnerable, challenging young people or experience working with individuals with mental health problems. You will be someone who can effectively analyse and evaluate evidence to objectively assess cases whilst complying with regulatory requirements in all practice. Communication skills are essential to this role, as you will be collaborating with colleagues, partners and external agencies in order to create effective rehabilitation programmes for the young offenders. You will also be a calm and resilient individual, with the ability to remain professional whilst working with challenging and often confrontational young people.
