Custodial Care Officer

Job description: Our client in Warwickshire are looking for a number of Custodial Care Officers to join their team on a permanent basis.

As a Custodial Care Officer, you will be responsible for supporting the rehabilitation of young offenders in secure training facilities, who have received Detention and Training Orders / imprisonment. In this role, you will be working with young offenders, supervising and supporting them whilst they undertake education and offending behaviour programmes, in preparation for release. As such, you will play a key role in helping young offenders turn their lives around by inspiring them to fulfil their potential by engaging with their enrichment activities and helping them rebuild their skill sets.

Ideally, candidates will have previous experience of supervising offenders, or those with challenging behaviours, through the probation/youth offending/prison service or the police. As a Custodial Care Officer you will be subject to challenging behaviours, and as such you must have a calm demeanour and be very resilient. A basic understanding of children and young people in the youth justice system is advantageous but not essential.

An Enhanced DBS is required for this position.

Due to the nature of this post, a rotational shift work pattern is in place wherein, you will be expected to work both day and night shifts, as well as working every other weekend.

If you are successful in your application you will be required to complete a 7 week induction and training programme that will equip you with the skills to become an effective Custodial Care Officer, followed by a period of shadowing, prior to starting work within your team.
