Job description: Development Officer, Leicester
An exciting new opportunity has opened for a Development Officer to focus on improving investment in housing for a local authority in Leicester.

The Role
In this position, you will mainly be focussing on improving the investment in to affordable housing across Leicester, this will be supplemented with the following responsibilities:
-To consider and target the needs of disadvantaged groups in the development of housing schemes and initiatives.
-To help manage the redevelopment of the Council's own housing stock and land as required.
-To promote & facilitate the development and implementation of schemes and initiatives for housing in the city.
-To promote and engender sustainable regeneration and sustainable communities.
-To promote and develop partnership initiatives to maximise resources and provide good quality housing in the City.
-Leads and acts as Project Manager for housing development initiatives and takes lead on other projects to deliver affordable housing in partnership where appropriate.
-Ensures that a housing perspective is reflected in the strategies and schemes of other services, the Council and relevant outside bodies.
-Identifies, investigates and assesses the potential of existing properties and sites available for the provision of affordable housing and meets with developers to give pre-planning advice.
-Negotiate and comments on planning applications on behalf of the Director of Housing.
-Identifies & secures investment for affordable housing provision in the City, with strategic partners, including bidding for funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.
-Administers the Council's Affordable Housing Grant Scheme.

The Candidate
To be successful within this position you will require a degree or equivalent professional qualification in housing planning or urban regeneration, or have, at least, three years' experience within one of these fields.
You will also be required to demonstrate knowledge of housing development activities and a strong understanding of the housing development process.

The Contract
This is a three-month contract, starting in December, working 37 hours per week, between 8.00 and 18.00. There is a very high chance this contract could be extended, or made permanent.
