Digital Platform Release Manager

Job description: My client, a local authority in Hampshire, is looking for a Digital Platform Release Manager to work on an initial 3 month contract basis.

You will own the Release Management Lifecycle which includes scheduling, coordinating and the management of releases across the Digital Platforms which is made up from multiple technology platforms. The releases can be inclusive of application package updates, operating system patches, security improvements, hardware upgrades, programmes and projects.


Responsibilities will include:

* Key interface between Technology Team Managers, Development managers, Test Managers, IT Operations, Project and Programme Managers and the Project Office
* Forward Plan the release windows and cycles across a portfolio
* Manage risks and resolves issues that affect release scope, schedule and quality
* Coordinate release content and effort based on the service request backlog, pending service requests, 3rd party applications, or operating system updates
* Manage relationships and coordinate work between different teams at different locations
* Conduct Release Readiness Reviews, Milestone Reviews and Business Go / NoGo Reviews
* Produce Deployment, Run Books and Implementation Plans
* Communicate release details and schedules to the business as required
* Negotiate, plan and manage all release activities
* Work with release developers to understand impacts of branches and code merges
* Maintains the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across key stakeholders and teams
* Continually work towards making improvements in the release process and liaise with stakeholders at all levels to continually improve quality and efficiency
* Lead and co-ordinate the Go-Live activities including the execution of the deployment plans and checklists
* Participate in CAB meetings to discuss release scope and / or roadblocks
* Maintains a release repository and manages key information such as build and release procedure, dependencies, and notification lists
* Scheduling the use of Development, Test & Training Environments based on the needs of all stakeholders
* Manage the re-configuration of Development, Test & Training Environments as per the schedule, coordinating cross functional resources
* Communicating effectively with project teams, resource management teams, IT management and executive groups and all project stakeholders
* Escalating resource contention appropriately
* Supporting the development of project plans and schedules


Essential skills:

* Communication both written and verbal as the role will require significant stakeholder management at various levels within the organisation
* General Project Management but this role would not be suited to a pure project manager
* General Technical knowledge of Application Lifecycle Development, ITIL Service Management, Configuration Management, Test Management and Environment Management
* Experience managing platforms across different Programmes
* EA (Enterprise Architect) level of knowledge and overview but this is not an architect role.


The Release & Environment Manager will have the platform leads reporting directly to them on one side with the PMs feeding their project plans and release schedules into the Release & Environment Manager on the other side.

There is a strong planning aspect to this role.

They will work closely with the Project Managers, Technical Managers and Test Managers.
