Electrical Design Engineer

Job description: My client based in Rochdale is looking for a Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary position and the successful candidate will hold a full UK driving licence and will hold a relevant professional qualification.

The main Purpose of this role is to provide technical guidance on any issues relating to planned maintenance and contract works.

Principal Duties

1.To provide technical advice/assistance, information and guidance on any issues relating to the definition of client needs and requirements within the function of planned maintenance and contract works. assist in the provision of technical advice, assistance, information and guidance on any issues relating to the definition of client needs and requirements

2.To evaluate the effects of, report on and adjust contract specifications to accommodate any changes in or variations to the needs and requirements of the client

3.To supervise contracts and monitor progress as well as maintain quality control and cost control standards in the implementation of all work relating to planned maintenance and contract works.

4.To maintain and monitor safe and responsible working methods in accordance with legal requirements, complete Risk assessment s and ensure safe methods of working are in place

5.To liaise with administrative and clerical support staff.

6.To assist in monitoring budgets including those budgets allocated to the post holder.

7.To maintain contact with the Lead and Senior Building Surveyor advising him/her of key issues and problems arise from the management of planned and contract works.

8.To ensure that good communications are maintained with management and staff, as appropriate, across all Services.

9.To maintain effective and up to date records of works completed and ensure information is recorded in the Council's and database.

10.To produce professional surveys and reports as required


11.Drafting Specifications and Estimating

-Preparation of schedules of work following site inspections for the efficient and effective building service design and installation of all electrical services in new and existing school and public buildings

-Preparation of full Tender documents including specifications and electrical loading calculations

-Respond to queries during tender process
-Evaluate tender submissions and prepare, and present to client, tender report with recommendations.

-Estimation of costs of work.

-Production of design drawings using AutoCAD in relation to electrical design

-Competent in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel etc.

12.Supervision/Checking

-Supervision of contractors on site related to their projects.
-Contract administration including issuing of site instructions to contractors for works interim and final payments.
-Reporting to senior staff on performance of contractors.
-Testing and commissioning

13.Client/Other Liaison

-Responding to client requirements.
-To deal with complaints from public/others.

14.Management of Contractor Performance/Quality Control

-To ensure high standards of workmanship by contractors.
-To ensure completion of contracts within budget and period allowed.
-To prepare schedules of defects and ensure remedial action is carried out by contractors.
-To ensure all works are carried out safely in accordance with relevant H&S legislation and statutory requirements.
-To ensure the provision and control of contractors to carry out unspecified and specified works.
-To ensure the client receives value for money in the execution of works.
