Job description: An exciting opportunity has arisen with Vale of Glamorgan Council in their Vale Communities for Work Services for an Employment Mentor to join their team.The service provides employment support to people in the Vale of Glamorgan seeking work (and full-time work if they work part-time). This vacancy is to provide support on a full time basis for at least the next six months to help manage a large increase in workload which is a result of the impact of the Covid-19 crisis on the local employment market. This has resulted in a substantial increase in the number of people looking for work in the Vale of Glamorgan area.

The duties of the employment support mentor includes supporting participants on the programme to look for work by;
*Providing 1:1 bespoke support, initially via phone, with face-to-face support again now available in a safe, local setting.
*Creating or improving their CV.
*Providing support with completing Job Applications (especially online).
*Improving 'job-search' techniques and information e.g. by identifying the best websites.
*Improving participants' interview technique and confidence.
*Assisting participants decide on the best training course options.
*Providing expertise about career options.
*Passing on general and specific employment-sector knowledge, particularly in respect of the local labour market.

70% of the referrals come from the Barry Jobcentre Plus and as a result the service has excellent working relationships with the staff. The service also works closely with a number of different partner agencies such as DWP staff, local housing associations and welsh government colleagues.

For this position, we are seeking a candidate who;
*Has experience of supporting people to find work or improve their career
*Is experienced at Mentoring individuals to reach their potential
*Has experience of working in a community development setting
