Job description: A local authority based in South Yorkshire is looking for an Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have extensive experience in a similar role, full relevant professional qualifications (Degree, EHRB Registration, Health & Safety etc.) and ideally experience in a local authority setting.

The main purpose of the role is to use statutory powers to regulate and enforce the law in the areas of private sector housing, environmental crime, statutory nuisance, filthy and verminous properties, properties impacting on local amenity & antisocial behaviour.

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

To provide effective outcomes, consistent with the enforcement policy to public and councillor complaints for a dedicated area of the Borough.
These complaints will include private sector housing complaint, statutory nuisance, environmental crime, filthy and verminous premises, properties negatively impact on local amenity and antisocial behaviour.
To provide specialised professional and technical expertise in response to consultations from the Planning and Licensing departments of the Council and be prepared to attend appeals and boards as required.
To assist in the delivery and enforcement of additional, selective and mandatory property licensing.
To provide expert and technical knowledge to more junior staff and enforcement officers and supervise the delivery of enforcement services for a dedicated geographical area through forming effective relationships and delegating appropriately.
Prepare cases for Court and be able to provide evidence in trials when required to deal with more serious cases of none compliance, in line with the enforcement policy.

Skills, knowledge & experience;

Degree / Diploma in Environmental Health.
Certificate of registration with the Environmental Health Registration Board.
Competence in using enforcement powers and proven experience in tacking difficult cases.
Able to assertively deal with situations involving conflict.
Able to cope with fluctuating workload and prioritise effectively based on risk.
Able to persuade, negotiate and influence with people from mixed backgrounds.
Ability to analyse complex issues and provide practical and creative solutions.
Strong interpersonal skills to form effective working relationships with colleagues

The successful candidate must be a full qualified Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £14 p/hr - £18 p/hr Umbrella Ltd (approx. £400 - £500 p/week after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
