Job description: Service Care Solutions are looking for a Fleet Vehicle Technician to work on a full-time contract for the local police force in Penrith.

To service, maintain and where appropriate repair all Constabulary vehicles. To design, maintain and install all emergency and speed enforcement systems (ancillary equipment) to police vehicles operated by this and other emergency services as required. All work to be completed in an effective, efficient and economic manner, within agreed performance standards, in order that the Constabulary can meet its operational and other commitments.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

-Maintain programmes and schedules ensuring that all vehicle and equipment servicing, maintenance and repairs contribute to the achievement of department and operational objectives within budget, in accordance with the principles of Value for Money and good housekeeping practices.

-Design the layout and plan the Constabulary fleet ancillary equipment, ensuring compliance with the European Directive 95/54/EC and A.E.S. Home Office specification.

-The installation and removal of the vehicle Airwaves radio system, MDT system and hands free kits in a timely manner to achieve maximum efficiency to meet operational requirements and adhere to Home Office Legislation on approved installations and Health and Safety Law.

-Carry out first line minor repairs to the vehicle Airwaves radio system and hands free kits.

-When requested by I.T. Complete an annual audit of the vehicle Airwaves radio system and hands free kits to comply with Home Office requirements.

-Be available to work at any of the police vehicle workshops and locations throughout the county.

-Arrange for vehicles to be transported to and from required locations when required.

-Consult with the Fleet Service Manager to identify and monitor instances of avoidable vehicle damage and misuse/neglect.

-Ensure that vehicle damage and vehicle ancillary equipment repairs are carried out to the required standard.

-Provide information on an ongoing basis to the Fleet Service Manager on the efficiency and effectiveness of the vehicle workshop operations.

-Advise the Fleet Service Manager of potential warranty claims from the vehicle manufacturers and dealers and take appropriate action as directed by the Fleet Service Manager.

-Arrange for ancillary equipment to be repaired by the manufacturer or their agents with regard to factory recalls.



Essential Criteria:
Demonstrable experience in vehicle maintenance and workshop operations in both petrol and diesel engine vehicles.

Experience in vehicle electrical systems including fault diagnosis and repair.

Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety in a workshop environment.

Experience of organising and prioritising own workload.

University qualifications will not be taken into account for this position.
