Job description: A local authority based in Greater Manchester is looking for a Food Safety Officer to join their team. This is a full time (37 hours' p/week), ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have full, up to date professional qualifications relating to food hygiene and safety, experience working in a similar Food Safety/EHO role and ideally experience working within local authorities.

The main purpose of the role is to carry out Environmental Health responsibilities in the area of Food Health and Safety, and for that purpose, to implement the council's approved policies and statutory duties in relation to those factors.

The main responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

Undertake reactive and proactive inspections and take any necessary remedial action to ensure compliance with legislative standards
Investigate complaints and undertake service requests (as allocated)
Prepare reports on infringements of legislation (whether for prosecution or alternative method of disposal); and where necessary to appear as a witness on behalf of the council at courts of law, public inquiries, tribunals and at other outside meetings as required.
To maintain effective liaison with other enforcement agencies and to foster partnership working.
To undertake sampling activity, surveys, surveillance, research activities and project work as and when required.
To advise local residents and businesses on all aspects of Public Protection legislation (including on a Home Authority / Primary Authority basis, as appropriate); and including the giving of talks, presentation of displays etc., in accordance with the section's educational role; and to assist generally with the promotion of schemes affecting all aspects of Public Protection, as allocated by the section.

The successful candidate will need professional qualifications in the area of Food Health & Safety and will need a full UK driving licence as some travel round the area will be required.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such are offering £18 p/hr Umbrella Ltd - £24 p/hr Umbrella Ltd for the duration of this position.
