Full Stack Developer

Job description: My Client, a Local Authority in Bristol, is currently looking for a Full Stack Developer to join their current team on a 6 month contract.

This post is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of council websites and web applications.

The role sits within the Digital team which is responsible for all online customer-facing marketing and communications for the council. This includes the public website, other microsites and portals, as well as social media and email marketing.


Main Duties

* Managing the council's Content Management System (Wordpress)
* Developing new websites as required
* Maintaining and improving existing websites
* Undertaking user research and requirements gathering
* Designing detailed user journeys and wireframes
* Providing consultancy and advice to officer sand senior management
* Undertaking research, measurement and evaluation (including web analytics) against agreed digital communications objectives and strategy
* Monitoring developments and innovations in digital technology
* Supporting the implementation of the council's digital change programme


Essential Skills/Requirements

* Experience of working with Content Management Systems
* Experience of WordPress theme and plugin development
* Experience of creating and managing MySQL databases
* Experience of building responsive user interfaces for websites and web applications
* Demonstrable experience of standard web technologies such as HTML and CSS
* Demonstrable experience of PHP
* Knowledge of client side scripting and JavaScript frameworks, including jQuery
* Experience of optimising web content for user experience, accessibility, and SEO
* Experience uncovering user needs and contexts using a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods
* Knowledge of creating and testing information architecture
* Understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them.
* Experience integrating with REST API's
* Exemplifying the Council's values and behaviours

Desirable

* Understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
* Understanding of CSS pre-processing tools such as SASS
* Understanding of JavaScript build tools such as Gulp
* Familiarity with image editing tools such as Photoshop
* Understanding of SEO principles
