Full Stack Developer (PHP)

Job description: My client, a local authority in Suffolk, is looking for a Full Stack PHP Developer to work on an initial 2 month contract basis to build a website search solution utilising Laravel.

You will work with the IT and digital teams to develop a solution that will be deployed on the main website, plus other services and strategic websites.
The site search will need to return relevant results and provide a good user experience with the look and feel of the search results consistent with the website.


The key features the site search solution will need to deliver include:

* Filtering of results, e.g. pages, documents, images, online service
* Pagination of results, e.g. 10 results per page
* Semantic search results, e.g. algorithmic recognition that "tips" and "dumps" = "household waste recycling centres"
* Misspelling recognition, e.g "ptholes" - 'did you mean potholes?'... "fire fighter" - 'did you mean firefighter'?
* Auto-suggest terms for popular searches, e.g. "sch" = "school meals/travel/term dates" etc
* Tabs to show search results for external websites, e.g. district and borough council websites
* Back-end login for in-house website editors
* Back-end ability to manually set suggested results for specified keywords
* Back-end ability to exclude sections of website from appearing in search results, e.g. news articles
* Back-end display of usage stats, e.g. total searches per month/year, top searches per month/year, searches with zero results


You will need the following skills:

* PHP (5.6+)
* HTML5/CSS3
* JavaScript
* ElasticSearch
* Experience with building content indexes/search and web scraping applications is a must.
* Experience of developing RESTFul API's
* Solid understanding of OOP

The ideal candidate will also have experience with:
* Microsoft Azure Hosting
* 3+ years of Laravel (or Symfony) experience.
* Git SCM
