Job description: Domestic Gas Engineer

Own vehicle Road Tax, motor insurance & clean driving license

Own Tools, calibrated flue analyser, public liability insurance

Experience domestic gas servicing and repairs minimum 3 years post qualification experience

To service, repair, maintain, fault find and install domestic heating systems and gas appliances in Council owned properties, in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and guidance.

To undertake work as directed in a safe manner to the correct quality and in a reasonable time. Regular monitoring of first time fix and call back rates will be in place to ensure standards and service levels are maintained.

The Gas Engineer shall be sufficiently competent to carry out all general gas works to domestic housing and flats, completing landlords certificates, be competent in fault diagnostics and repair of modern and traditional boilers and be able to carry out repairs to heating systems.

To document and record details of job progression and completion inclusion of the use of SOR's schedule of rates (via PDA) in a timely manner.

To hold a full clean driving licence and be prepared to work in the field at various locations within the London Borough of Islington. In addition the post holder will be required to enter resident's premises to carry out repairs/servicing/installation works.

To liaise with suppliers, other trades operatives and other Council departments to aid job completion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Assist with the installation of domestic heating systems and gas appliances.

2.Carry out servicing, repair and maintenance of existing gas appliances.

3.Ensure all certification and documentation, in connection with work carried out, is completed accurately and in accordance with the Council's Data Protection policy.

4.Ensure the security and correct operation of plant and equipment supplied including vehicles, gas flue analysers and mobile data equipment e.g. PDA's, Mobile phone.

5.Complete PDA entries accurately, recording work undertaken and start and finish actions in real time basis.

6.Work to deadlines and timescales, attend appointments punctually and inform either the resident or the office of any delays.

7.To carry out all work to the requirements of Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

8.To carry out all work conforming to all relevant British Standards.

9.To carry out all work in compliance with Manufacturer's instructions.

10.To immediately report to your manager, any accident, incident or potentially dangerous situation.

11.To effectively communicate with customers to explain the correct operation of gas appliances and the importance of regularly servicing gas appliances.

12. Be available to carry out standby duties as and when required

13.Be available to provide Out of Hours Emergency cover as and when required

14.To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post.



ADDITIONAL:
*To be able to work as part of a team and independently showing initiative dealing with situations and completing tasks.

*To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs, as agreed by the line manager.

*To be competent to carry out and/or be trained in: - Electrical Works - replacement of central heating controls. Plaster/Brickwork - minor making good/patching of areas disturbed and Power Flushing of heating systems

*Be willing and able to work with and train apprentices or other personnel as required.

*To carry out gas related activities in tenanted and void properties.

*To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
