Job description: A local authority based in North London is looking for a Corporate Health & Safety Advisor to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have extensive experience in a similar role, relevant professional qualifications (IOSH Membership, NEBOSH Diploma etc.) and ideally experience in a local authority setting.

The main purpose of the role is to provide support and guidance to all internal departments in respect of occupational health, safety and welfare, ensuring continuing development of a council wide occupational health and safety management system.

The main responsibilities associated with this role are as follows;

Supporting managers in their understanding and use of the risk assessment process to ensure significant risks are properly and proportionally assessed and recorded
Auditing at various levels in the organisation
Develop and review safe working arrangements
Completion of workplace assessments for employees
Assist managers with incident investigations

Additional main responsibilities will be as follows;

To assist the Head of Corporate Health and Safety and the Senior Health and Safety Adviser in the development of a safety culture
To undertake the design, development and promotion of safety management systems, policies and strategies, monitoring systems, procedures and guidelines in consultation with key personnel, managers and safety representatives
To keep up to date with new legislation, new developments and innovation in health, safety and welfare; carryout reviews of council strategies, policy guidelines and working practices, in line with these changes; to maintain high standards of professionalism through the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health's Continued Professional Development scheme.
To regularly report to Directors and Heads of Service, health, safety and welfare developments within their services, issues arising and making recommendations for improvement.
To develop and promote good working relationships, co-operation and communication between safety co-ordinators, safety advisers, premises managers, external enforcement officers, trade union representatives and other key staff and specialists in the field of health and safety.
To undertake audits of the council's occupational health and safety management system as
required producing action plans with regards to audit findings.

The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering up to £26 p/hour Umbrella Ltd (approx. £620 p/week after deductions) dependant on experience and qualifications.
