Job description: A Local Authority based in North West London is looking for a Health & Safety Advisor/Officer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant qualification in Health & Safety (Preferable MIOSH), evidence of CPD and extensive experience dealing with Schools/Local Authority projects.

The main purpose of the role is to work directly with internal clients to provide professional advice and support to ensure legal compliance, the prevention of occupational injury/ill health and to incorporate best practice into all aspects of service provision in relation to health, safety & wellbeing.

The main accountabilities associated with the role are as follows;

Act as an internal consultant to advise and coach managers on their responsibilities for health and safety duties, providing guidance and practical solutions to ensure legal compliance and best practice in line with the clients management system.
Provide leadership on the health, safety and wellbeing aspects of business and service plans.
Undertake specific assessments (including workstation/workplace assessments), where required, and advise/support managers through the risk assessment process at an operational level.
Communicate, consult and share best practice across all directorates to improve consistency and performance to include providing expert opinion on any matters health and safety related.
Ensure all accidents/incidents/near misses are properly reported internally and externally where necessary and investigated, in accordance with internal policy and legislation.
Plan, develop and conduct workplace inspections and internal audits in line with council policy and procedures.
Develop, deliver, co-ordinate and evaluate health, safety and wellbeing related training.
Be responsible for delivering allocated projects.
Be responsible for specific corporate health, safety and wellbeing areas of expertise.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Hold an industry recognised professional health and safety qualification
Chartered membership of IOSH or actively working towards attaining Chartered Status.
Ability to undertake health and safety inspections and Construction site visits
Ability to undertake Health and Safety Audits
Knowledge of School and LA projects

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £34 p/hour Umbrella ltd (approx. £800 NET p/week after deductions) for the duration of the role.
