Job description: A local authority based in South Bedfordshire is looking for a Construction Health and Safety Officer to join their team. The successful candidate will need a strong background in Construction, a full professional qualification and extensive experience in a similar role. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency contract.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure that all operations managed and delivered by BTS (Building & Technical Services) are safe and in accordance with all relevant legislation. This will include identifying, assessing and advising on impending legislation to ensure that the business is fully prepared for any changing requirements.

The main responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

Act as Health & Safety Officer for all directly delivered and outsourced works
Reviewing health and safety policies are in line with the business needs of the services
Advising and assisting the business in the development of practical risk assessments when required.
Advise on relevant provisions of health & safety legislation, in accordance with guidelines, codes of practice, advice notes and policy.
Act as the Principle Designer under CDM Regulations where required.
Offer advice, training and guidance to staff, tenants, leaseholders and contractors as required on all relevant aspects of health & safety.

Other skills and experience the client is looking for are as follows;

Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM 2015 and associated regulations and guidance
Accident investigation procedures
Risk assessment processes including fire risk assessment
Stress risk assessment
Conducting formal investigations and producing improvement plans
Principle Designer Duties
In Health and Safety legislations and best practices.

The client is looking for the successful candidate to have a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in health and safety and ideally to be a Corporate member of IOSH, along with evidence of continuing professional development.
