Job description: A Local Authority based in North Wales is looking for a Public Protection Officer (Corporate Health & Safety Officer) to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant Health & Safety/Environmental Health qualification, experience dealing with Corporate Health & Safety issues and ideally a strong background in Local Authority projects.

The main purpose of the role is to deliver the client's statutory functions relating to a range of Public Protection activities including Trading Standards, Licensing, Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental Protection and Housing Standards that support businesses and the economy, improve public health and safety and protect service users/customers.

The main responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

Collate, organise, analyse and interpret complex information and identify options to determine the most appropriate course of action and implement that action.
Undertake interventions at premises under relevant legislation. Risk assessment of premises to determine frequency of interventions in accordance with guidance and departmental practice. Record all work carried out in the required format.
Undertake investigations in response to incoming complaints /intelligence concerning Public Protection matters.
Instigate action in relation to infringements detected, including seizing high value goods, cash and sensitive documents, unfit food, and closing unsatisfactory food premises seizure of goods and serving suspension notices.
Gather evidence and interview suspects in accordance with PACE and/or civil procedures and rules. Prepare reports on alleged infringements so that appropriate enforcement action can be taken. Attend court, industrial or property tribunals, planning appeals inquiries as required to give evidence.
Respond to enquiries from the public and the business community and employees by providing information on Public Protection legislation. Participate in public and business educational and publicity events.
Participate in projects in partnership with other agencies and colleagues across geographic and organisational boundaries. This will include liaising proactively with customers, stakeholders and colleagues and participating in the development of effective working relationships

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Completion of relevant professional qualification e.g. Degree/Diploma in Environmental Health/Trading Standards and EHORB, Higher Certificate of Food Inspection, Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards.
BTEC Professional Certificate (Level 4) in Licensing
Working towards IOSH, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
Good working knowledge of policies & procedures and legislative requirements relevant to Public Protection.
General knowledge of business planning processes.
General knowledge of Health, Safety & Welfare.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £18 p/hr Umbrella ltd (approx. £470 NET p/week after deductions) for the duration of the role.
