Job description: A Local Authority based in Tyne & Wear is looking for a Highways Design Technician to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant design qualification, experience dealing with a multitude of highways/transport projects and ideally a strong background in local authority settings.

The main purpose of the role is to effectively deliver internally and externally funded highway design projects and other relevant work-streams within the Infrastructure and Commercial function of the transport service.
This is a role perfect for a civil engineering technician with highways and traffic engineering experience at a technician level and who is ideally qualified to HNC standard in Civil Engineering.

The main responsibilities of the role are as follows;

Heavily AutoCAD orientated, in particular the candidate must have extensive experience with AutoCAD and ideally experience of Civils 3-D.
Experience in the use of other industry standard software such as Key-Lines, Key-Signs and Key-Post would be beneficial but is not essential.
Design works involve assisting with initial feasibility studies and then developing these schemes, through consultation process to final delivery on site.
To assist in delivery of services that provide value for money in compliance with Council procedures, a past experience of working for a local authority would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Supporting the health and safety of employees and others, by assisting in the implementation of safe systems of work, monitoring of inspection regimes and continuous review, to help identify and manage associated risks in accordance with CDM 2015 and the Council's health and safety policy and associated risk assessments.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following;

Experience of the design of highway works and knowledge of current technical standards
Experience of design of traffic safety schemes and knowledge of current technical standards
Competent in the use of AutoCAD
Competent in the use of Civils 3-D
Experience of the preparation of contract documents
Working knowledge of the Specification for Highway Works
Ability to work as part of a multi-discipline team
Knowledge in the use of New Engineering Contract (NEC3)

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such is offering an hourly rate of £16 p/hr Umbrella Ltd (Approx. £430 p/week after deductions). This position falls inside of IR35, so personal Ltd companies cannot be used to process pay.
