Job description: My client, a local authority based in Leicestershire is looking for a Highways Design Engineer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate will have a relevant Degree level qualification, experience with highways/transport design and ideally experience in a similar local authority role.

The main purpose of the role is to carry out the engineering design of highway, traffic and transport infrastructure schemes, including supporting the procurement and delivery of the construction projects.

The main responsibilities of the role will include;

Undertake modelling and design for highway & transport improvement projects.
Supervise and monitor contracting resources, including record keeping of progress and site issues and resources.
Undertake measurement and valuation of works and preparation of cost estimates.
Support business case development for new projects and to support bids for funding.
Undertake stakeholder engagement including liaison with user groups and business organisations.
Provide advice on highway engineering or structural engineering in relation to highway infrastructure improvements and maintenance.
Undertake asset inspections and asset management function for highway and transport infrastructure assets
Monitoring progress, ensuring the works are completed on time, within budget and to the required standards

The successful candidate will demonstrate experience of designing highway & transport improvement schemes and systems as well as awareness of current issues affecting design guidance including statutory requirements. The successful candidate will also have experience of delivering presentations on projects to management to various colleagues and will have experience of using, updating and developing spreadsheet, e-mail, connected technologies, presentations, web, database applications for own/other peoples' use.

The successful candidate will need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle. The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering a negotiable pay rate for the right candidate, up to around £35 p/hr Umbrella Ltd for this role.
