Job description: Homeless Hostel Manager - Hackney
The London Borough of Hackney are recruiting for an experienced Hostel Manager to manager their homeless hostel hich accommodates households under the 1985 housing act

The Role
As manager of a homeless hostel, you will be supervising staff in ensuring that service users have access to all relevant support, as well as maintaining health and safety within the hostel.
The environment is exceptionally pressurised and the candidate will be working by themselves and a caretaker (who they will manage) to ensure the building is kept clean and in accordance with health and safety requirements.
This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Make maximum use of the accommodation available by a rational allocation of rooms;
*Help residents get all the benefits to which they are entitled;
*Deal with payment of charges - the accommodation is not free unless there are special circumstances;
*Organise the deployment of day and night staff, including the operation of a shift rota system and be prepared to be part of it when necessary;
*Supervise staff and promote their development;
*Build up effective teams to work within the statutory legislation regarding the homeless;
*Keep records and a daily log book analysis of events;
*Take decisive action when occupancy agreements are contravened.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require extensive experience of managing a hostel or similar premises and should be aware of health and safety requirements that are needed. You will ideally have experience of working with clients with support needs and able to manage customer expectations regarding their housing options due to the severe shortage of accommodation.

The Contract
This is a temporary contract, running until February 2020 initially, with a chance of being extended. The role will be full time, operating on a shift rota and alternates weekly on either a 8am start or 12pm start for 5 days. Every 4/5 weeks you will be required to work 10-6pm Saturday and Sunday and will get 2 days time off in lieu.
