Job description: A large housing association are recruiting for a Housing Support Worker to join their service in Colchester, providing housing related support to single people and families who are at risk of homelessness.

The Service
This Housing Support Worker role is based within a homelessness hostel in Colchester, which provides support for single people and families, who are at risk of homelessness, with a view to moving them on in to their own tenancy and independent living.

The Role
The focus of this Housing Support Worker role is to provide a housing support service to those at risk of homelessness and will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Ensuring people have access to the right support networks e.g. drug/alcohol services, healthcare etc.
*Multi-agency working and creating links to the local community through (for example) volunteering, social activities, wellbeing activities etc.
*Supporting people to access education, training and employment opportunities.
*Delivering personalised support packages helping people to identify their own strength, hopes and aspirations and working with people to realise them.
*Assisting clients with day-to-day tenancy issues such as payment of rent and liaising with landlords and assisting with benefit claims.
*You will work collaboratively and creatively with clients to ensure their route off the streets and into accommodation is both seamless and sustainable.

The Candidate
To be considered for this Housing Support Worker role, it is essential that you are experienced in working with the homeless, or rough sleepers and have strong knowledge of the support that is available for the homeless and outside agencies who can work collaboratively in the support process.
Previous experience required with a good knowledge of welfare benefits, Risk assessments and support planning processes, safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children, able to promote independent living skills, advice and guidance around tenancy management, employment education and training.
Must be intermediate level MS Word/Outlook for risk assessments, support plans etc.
As this role is working with vulnerable people, it is essential that you have a clean DBS, ideally on the update service, and as the role will include cover within other schemes where required, you will need to be a car driver with access to a vehicle for work.

The Contract & Hours
This is a 3 month contract, which could potentially be extended.
Working hours are 37.5 hours a week and the shift pattern will be 8.00am-3.30pm and 11.30am- 7.00 p.m.
