Job description: Homelessness Prevention and Relief Officer, Brent
A London based council are recruiting for a Homelessness Prevention and Relief Officer role to work as part of the Housing Needs Service team. This will involve working alongside people in housing need and those who are at the risk of becoming homeless to identify and address their housing and support needs in order to prevent and relieve homelessness.

The Role
Your key duties within the role will include:
-Assisting homeless households to avoid the experience of temporary accommodation by engaging with all necessary parties including landlords and other excluders to stop the loss of their current accommodation followed by a planned move to the Private Rented Sector where appropriate.
-Explore and present a range of housing options to resolve their housing needs, dealing with a range of cases, including complex cases which may be subject to judicial review and ombudsman enquiries.
-Conducting statutory homelessness assessments and for supporting households to sustain their tenancies and ensuring they are settled into their new accommodation.
-Engaging individuals/households in the borough experiencing a housing crisis and managing their expectations in relation to the private rented property market in order to make the decision for themselves/their family
-Linking those individuals/households with, and advocating for, the right assistance in existing services to address their holistic needs.
-Avoiding a placement in Temporary Accommodation for households receiving timely assistance in relation to their housing crisis.
-Providing tenancy support for the families placed in private rented sector (PRS) accommodation to ensure sustainability of such tenancies.
-Providing practical advice, information and support on a wide range of issues including housing, welfare rights, and the promotion of personal independence and helping clients to find long term settled accommodation.
-Negotiating and mediating with landlords and excluders to agree new tenancies/licences as well as extensions to existing tenancies and licences.
The Contract
This is a contact starting 11th February up to 31th May 2019, working 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The Candidate
The candidate will have a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policy and procedures on homelessness in order to provide innovative advice and solutions when dealing with complex and difficult cases. Experience of giving advice and information to vulnerable customers and working in a busy front line customer focused environment
