Job description: Homelessness Prevention Officer - Leicester
An increased focus on Homeless Prevention work has led to the creation of three new Homelessness Prevention Officer Vacancies for a local authority within Leicester, with the intention of assisting residents to maintain their current tenancies or providing alternative housing options.

The Role
The focus of this position is to assist residents of the authority in maintaining their current tenancy, or offer the provision of more affordable housing options with the aim being to prevent them becoming homelessness.
Your main tasks within this role will include the following:
-Provide front line services to customers, either face-to-face, over the telephone or home visits, sometimes in potentially confrontational and sensitive situations.
-Produce written correspondence, including investigating and responding to Councillor and MP enquiries.
-Investigates, assesses and advises clients on options open to them to retain existing accommodation or secure suitable re-housing with the aim to prevent homelessness.
-Maintain comprehensive awareness of the law and good practice and its application to the work of the Section.
-Undertake assessments of applications for priority re-housing, relating to the prevention of homelessness.
-Work with internal and external stakeholders including attendance at meetings as designated by the Manager.
-Undertakes a range of work related to the private rented sector e.g. validation of notice, illegal evictions, affordability issues, and defending possession proceedings.
-Undertakes a range of work and works collaboratively with a variety of multi -agencies which will include the duty to cooperate with teams such as Leaving Care Team, Childrens Services and Probation in order to achieve the aim and objective of the prevention of homelessness for key client groups.
-To fully inform customers of the housing options available to them, and assist customers with a range of housing matters.
-Ensure that landlords and agents comply with relevant legislation.
-Understand the need to facilitate tenancy sustainment and be proactive in engaging floating support for customers

The Candidate
To be successful within this position, you will require previous experience working with the homeless; ideally a minimum of one year working in homeless prevention, tenancy relations, housing advice or allocations, or housing management. It is essential that you have a strong working knowledge of the Housing Act (1996), with a specific emphasis on Section 184 and making effective housing decisions based on this.
Furthermore, you will require a DBS, ideally on the update service, to be considered for the role. The ability to drive is not essential, however, if you are a car driver, this will be beneficial to you.

The Contract
These three vacancies are on initial 10 week contracts with a view to be extended, as these are likely to be ongoing roles. Any extensions will be by a minimum of 4 weeks and there is a good chance the roles could eventually become permanent positions. The roles are full time, working Monday to Friday.
