Job description: Private Sector Housing Officer, Nuneaton
A local authority in Nuneaton are recruiting for a Private sector Housing Officer to carry out investigations, inspections of dwellings and land in response to service requests and for the purposes of house condition surveys or other programmed work of the section.

The Role
Your key responsibilities within this role will include:
-Initiate, implement and monitor projects to achieve Decent Homes in the private sector and other corporate objectives. Work to achieve the aims and objectives of the Council and the Service Unit and Business Plan.
-In response to service requests/complaints, carry out surveys and inspections of dwellings, other buildings or land with regard to the requirements of the Housing Acts, Public Health Acts, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
-Carry out programmed inspections of Houses in Multiple Occupation, other dwellings, buildings and land with regard to the requirements of the Housing Acts, Public Health Acts, Environmental Protection Act and other relevant legislation.
-Inspect properties for the purpose of the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and HMO Licensing and regulation, implement and operate relevant policies and strategies including Landlords Accreditation, Empty Property Strategy, Affordable Warmth, Bond Deposit Scheme.
-Lead investigations into cases of Harassment and Illegal Eviction and recommend the appropriate action, working in conjunction with the Housing Options Team.
-Work with the Home Improvement Agency to establish and implement a contractor code of conduct, monitor contractors against the criteria and recommend action as appropriate.
-Ensure that work undertaken complies with statutory requirements including Health and Safety and Construction Design and Management Regulations. Advise clients regarding the quality of the work carried out and recommend payment of Council monies where appropriate.
-Recommend to the Private Sector Housing Manager, the use of court proceedings where necessary and appropriate and implement on agreement. To prepare evidence and statements, and to attend court on behalf of the Council as required.
-Prepare reports and recommendations for use by the Private Sector Housing Manager on the results of inspections/surveys made.
-Advise the Private Sector Housing Manager and the section on legislative matters in connection with all technical/constructional aspects of the work of Private Sector Housing Team.

The Candidate
To be considered for this vacancy, you will require the following experience:
-Extensive and recent experience of carrying out housing inspection and/or the inspection of housing maintenance, with particular relevance to private sector housing.
-Experience of working in an environment providing a service to the public and an understanding of customer care issues.
-Experience of enforcement and application of Housing and Public Health Legislation
-Knowledge of the law relating to housing standards, environmental health and related legislation, such as Health and Safety.
-Ability to effectively use a range of computer packages, including Microsoft.

The Contract
Initially this is a three-month contract, but is likely to be extended - the role is full time, working 37 hours per week.
