Job description: Housing Options Advisor, Solihull
A large West Midlands Housing Association are recruiting for an experienced Housing Options Officer to join their team on an initial five week contract, to provide advice to customers on a range of housing options available to them

The Role
The key tasks of this role will be as follows:
-To process and investigate applications for housing accommodation including those cases who are homeless and threatened with homelessness, making such inquiries as are necessary to determine what duty is owed to customers under the Housing Act 1996 (as amended).
-To undertake interviews/visits with customers and attend any multi agency meetings as required.
-To manage a complex caseload ensuring that all necessary paperwork and records are effectively maintained and are accessible.
-To take reasonable steps to secure suitable emergency and temporary accommodation for homeless households according to statutory requirements.
-To maintain regular contact with homeless households in temporary accommodation, ensuring that appropriate support is made available.
-To take reasonable steps to prevent homelessness, working with statutory, voluntary and private organisations as required.
-To ensure that advice and information about homelessness and prevention of homelessness is readily available. Provide positive outcomes for customers using a full range of housing options and empowering where possible.
-To have an understanding of and maintain your knowledge in a wide range of relevant housing and welfare rights and duties including landlord and tenant law, homelessness, localism, immigration and asylum, matrimonial and family law in order to be able to provide specialist advice as necessary.
-Providing appropriate support to vulnerable persons with a variety of needs including mental health issues, unemployment, offending behaviour, family breakdown, substance misuse, neighbourhood disputes, behavioural issues, antisocial behaviour and support for young parents.
-Working with a range of accommodation providers to find appropriate accommodation suitable for the customers assessed needs.
-Assisting with safety planning; working with customers to produce safety plans and advising on use of available remedies.
-Identifying child safety and safeguarding issues and working appropriately to address these.
-mobility passes, local support services and tenancy support.
-To have an understanding of the housing stock situation in Solihull and resource limitations; working with customers to gather information and communicate situation and outcomes.

The Candidate
To be successful in the role you will have a detailed knowledge of the homeless legislation and be used to making Section 184 decisions. You will have kept abreast of the changes introduced through the Homeless Reduction Act and have excellent experience of Section VII applications and processing these, as well as Section 184.

The Contract
This is an initial 3 month contract, with an excellent chance of being extended - the hours are full time, though part time might be considered for the right candidate.
