Job description: Housing Options Officer, Dudley
A local authority in Dudley require a Homelessness Prevention Case Manager to manage a personal caseload, preventing homelessness whenever possible, but otherwise making homelessness decisions and managing the case to conclusion, as they have a back log of cases.

The Role
The focus of this role is to prevent homelessness through a variety of activities - the key tasks of the role include:
-To receive homeless/potentially homeless referrals and make an initial assessment and case action plan.
-To assist the customer in preventing homelessness wherever possible, including liaison with landlords, families, mortgage lenders, etc.
-To provide advocacy/representation for customers in order to prevent homelessness.
-To refer customers to other services as appropriate and monitor progress.
-To convene and lead case conferences/multi agency approaches to resolve individual cases.
-To secure interim accommodation as necessary and arrange admission, transport, housing support, housing benefit claims, furniture storage, accommodation for pets, all as required.
-When necessary, to take homelessness claims, investigate them, issue determinations and manage cases to conclusion.
-To provide Housing Advice to customers at Area Housing Offices, Dudley Council Plus, on the telephone, by Videolink and at community venues and/or hospitals, prisons, hostels, etc.
-To develop and maintain a proactive and positive working relationship with an Area Housing Team and/or other Council service or partner agency, and to ensure that procedures are in place to prevent and respond to homelessness in that service area.
-To participate as required in the Out of Hours rota for Homelessness/Housing Advice emergencies.
-To recommend or authorise payments from the Homelessness Prevention Fund budget, according to Directorate policies and procedures.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role it is essential that you have experience of s184 decision making, managing your own case load and have an excellent understanding of housing law, candidates without this experience will not be considered, as the authority require someone who can hit the ground running and help reduce a backlog of casework.
The Contract
This is a one-month contract, with a good chance of being extended.
