Job description: Housing Options Officer - Solihull
A large Solihull based Housing Association are recruiting for an experienced Housing Options Officer, used to making Section 184 Decisions, to join their team immediately.

The Role
The focus of this role is to process and investigate applications for housing accommodation; including those who are homeless, or threatened with homelessness. You will make enquiries under the Housing Act 1996 and undertake interviews and visits to clarify information.
-You will be carrying a complex caseload, ensuring all necessary paperwork and records are maintained and accessible.
-You will work to reduce the number of households in temporary accommodation and keep in contact with households in temporary accommodation, to ensure appropriate support is available
-To take reasonable steps to prevent homelessness, working with statutory, voluntary and private organisations as required.
-To ensure that advice and information about homelessness and prevention of homelessness is readily available. Provide positive outcomes for customers using a full range of housing options and empowering where possible.
-To have an understanding of and maintain your knowledge in a wide range of relevant housing and welfare rights and duties including landlord and tenant law, homelessness, localism, immigration and asylum, matrimonial and family law in order to be able to provide specialist advice as necessary.
-Providing appropriate support to vulnerable persons with a variety of needs including mental health issues, unemployment, offending behaviour, family breakdown, substance misuse, neighbourhood disputes, behavioural issues, antisocial behaviour and support for young parents.
-Working with a range of accommodation providers to find appropriate accommodation suitable for the customers assessed needs.
-Assisting with safety planning; working with customers to produce safety plans and advising on use of available remedies.
-Identifying child safety and safeguarding issues and working appropriately to address these.
-mobility passes, local support services and tenancy support.
-To have an understanding of the housing stock situation in Solihull and resource limitations; working with customers to gather information and communicate situation and outcomes.

The Candidate
To apply for this vacancy, it is essential that you have a detailed knowledge of homeless legislation and are used to making Section 184 decisions. It will be expected that you have kept abreast of the changes introduced through the Homeless Reduction Act. You will also require solid experience of working with Part VII applications.

The Contract
This role is to begin immediately, and is 37 hours per week. Although the client operate flexi time, you will need to be available from 9.00 to 5.00 Monday through to Friday
