Job description: Housing Solutions Officer, Grays
A local authority in Grays are recruiting for a Housing Reviews & Projects Officer to lead on an exciting brief which combines some statutory review decisions with a wider project to achieve best practice across their Housing Solutions service.

The Role
The focus of this role is to undertake the statutory reviews and appeals functions as detailed in Part 6 & 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and to undertake specialist projects to assist the Housing Solutions team in preparation for the implementation of the Homelessness Reduction Act.
This role will sit within the Housing Service reporting to the Housing Solutions Manager and there will be no direct line management responsibility.
The key priorities for the officer for six months of the project are:
-To assess and respond to appeals against any decisions made in relation to the rejection of a housing application, suspension or cancellation of application for any reason, discharge of duty into the private sector, homelessness decisions and suitability of accommodation.
-Timely handling of all legal enquiries and challenges; expert input into members enquiries and complaints
-Working closely with the Housing Solutions service to develop the service in readiness for the Homelessness Reduction Act.
-Review all standard letters and procedures to achieve best standards both now and when the new Act takes effect
-Maintaining the integrity of all relevant data relating to the appeals and reviews
-Attending local relevant forums and meetings as and when required
-Undertaking other relevant projects as required across the Housing Solutions services
-Providing statutory and professional advice on Part 6 &7 of the Housing Act 1996 as amended to the senior management team and housing colleagues

The Candidate
The successful candidate should have the following skills and experience!
-Extensive experience in applying the Housing Act 1996 Part VI and VII as amended and the Homelessness and Allocations Codes of Guidance coupled with the current case law, Housing Regulations and good practices to ensure all decisions reached are lawful and reasonable .
-Knowledge of other relevant legislation including Landlord and Tenant Act 1985 , Housing Act 1985 and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977, Localism Act 2012 , Welfare Reform Act 2012, Children Act 1989 and DWP guidance on Housing Benefits, Universal Credit and other benefits .
-Detailed knowledge of the legislation who is highly motivated, experienced and committed towards providing a high quality service to the public.

The Contract
This is a full time role, heading up a six month project. There is a chance the contract could be extended beyond this.
