Job description: Housing Solutions Officer, Worthing
A West Sussex based council are recruiting for a Housing Solutions Officer based in Worthing. This role will require the individual to deliver a high quality and customer focussed housing needs service, including housing advice and homelessness services.

The Role
To assess homeless applications made to the Councils under Part VII of the 1996 Housing Act in order to reach legally rigorous decisions. This includes assessing whether a household is eligible for assistance, homeless or at risk of homelessness, in priority need, unintentionally homeless and whether the applicant has a local connection to the relevant authority.

Main duties, tasks and responsibilities of post holder
-To provide appropriate housing advice and assistance in line with current legislation and Council policies to assist anyone with an existing accommodation problem and/or looking for another home.

-To assess homeless applications made under Part VII of the 1996 Housing Act and conduct relevant enquiries in order to reach a decision on what duties are owed to the applicant by the Council.

-To meet with applicants and maintain contact with them in order to effectively manage their applications until a decision is reached on their applications.

-To write clear and comprehensive decision letters which will be open to legal scrutiny and challenge.

-To maintain casework and other records and files in line with the performance requirements of the service and ensure that accurate records are maintained.

-To effectively manage a caseload of homeless applications and continually review outstanding actions on casework, in order to reach decisions in a timely manner.

-To manage a caseload of homeless applications being mindful at all times of the impact on homeless applicants of experiencing homelessness and placement in temporary accommodation and the cost implications to the Council.

-To update digital case management systems and ensure that all relevant fields are updated.
-To maintain an up to date knowledge of housing legislation, case law and guidance.
-To provide support to colleagues and share any specific specialist knowledge, (for example around homelessness, landlord and tenant legislation, disrepair etc.) with other members of the team.
- To undertake all duties in accordance with Council policies, in particular those relating to Customer Care and Equal Opportunities.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role you must have experience of working in housing advice, homelessness or tenancy relations roles as well as providing services to a diverse client group. An in-depth knowledge of the 1996 Housing Act.

The Contract
This is a temporary contact starting 18th Feburary 2019 to 12th May 2019, working 37 hours per week.
