This role is based within the Colchester Temporary Housing Service, which is a service for homeless households who are awaiting assessment, or being assessed by the local council as to their right to be housed by the housing authority. We work with young people, single adults and families. Some will move on to social housing whilst others may be found intentionally homeless and will move to the private rented sector. Staff provide a support service to meet the needs of licensees whilst they live in any of the schemes within the service, this including a hostel building and self-contained flats in the local area of Colchester. The team works closely with the local council to facilitate move-on into appropriate accommodation.
The purpose of this role is to support and enable vulnerable people to sustain a tenancy living within the community through providing practical and emotional support to encourage tenants to take an active part in the community. This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Promote the integration of the tenant into the local community and provide opportunities by which they will be enabled to develop skills and have access to the widest possible range of experiences.
*Ensure that the tenants needs are met by liaising with other organisations providing access to community-based services and resources.
*Ensure that the participation by the tenant in the management of all household tasks, through teaching and practical support.
*Involve the tenant in everyday household tasks where possible, and help to develop the skills needed to achieve this. Tasks include gardening, shopping, cleaning, cooking and all other normal day to day tasks.
*To take an active part in tenant involvement, liaising with relevant groups and participating in relevant training and updates.
*Assist in the co-ordination of shift activities.

*Participate in regular staff meetings and reviews.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role, it is vital that you have strong working experience within housing support, ideally with a focus on those who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. You will need a strong understanding of the benefits system and be able to provide advice on this.
Due to the nature of the service users, you will require a DBS for this role; a new one can be processed for you, however, as this is an urgent requirement, a current DBS on the update service will be highly beneficial to your application.

Shifts 8am-3pm; 3pm-11pm with a sleep in; or a bridging shift which would either be 10-6 or 8-4. If any shifts are unsuitable, please do not apply as staff need to be flexible.
