Job description: Income Assistant - London Bridge
A large housing association are recruiting for an experienced Income Assistant to provide support to the Income Services team in London Bridge on a Six-Month Fixed Term Contract.

The Role
The focus of the role is to carry out administrative tasks including the management of Housing Benefit entitlement notifications and dealing with low level arrears and former tenant arrears. This will include the following responsibilities:
*To manage low level rent arrears on a regular basis in line with the organisations policies and procedures, in order to identify cases that require action to the Income Officer or Manager.
*To negotiate low level repayment agreements for low level arrears with residents and take corrective action where such agreements are not maintained.
*To take action to recover former tenant rent arrears and where appropriate refer them to external collection agencies and monitor the performance of the collection agency and prepare former tenant write off reports where the debt is not collectable.
*To refer residents to welfare benefit and debt support services to ensure that residents are able to maximise their income by ensuring take up of any entitlement to benefits.
*To carry out administrative tasks such as processing housing benefit entitlement notifications; providing general administrative support, managing appointments for the team, updating the information centre and any other task as requested by the Income Manager
*To process the daily list of unpaid Direct Debits, to set up and amend Direct Debit payment agreements and issue payment cards to residents
*Identify vulnerable residents and make referrals to the resident support team to ensure appropriate support is put in place
*To support the Income team in delivering the strategic aims of the income service
*To support the Income team with the collection of Leasehold arrears

The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will require the following skills and experience:
*Housing law and debt recovery not essential but preferred.
*Knowledge of Universal Credit and Welfare Reform
*Some knowledge of housing law and good practice with regards to debt recovery
*An understanding of welfare benefits, Universal Credit and welfare benefit reform
*Front line experience in credit control or income management
*Good IT skills and competent with office applications and housing management systems
*Self-motivated and able to prioritise own workloads and work on own initiative
*This is a demanding role therefore resilience and the ability to work under pressure is key. Role profile attached.

The Package
This is a 3-6 months fixed term appointment. Salary £24,500 per annum pro rata.
