Job description: Independence Advisor, Oldham
I am recruiting for an Independence Advisor for a large housing association in Greater Manchester, with the intention of delivering practical advice, intensive housing management support and assistance to their customers and other clients to enable tenancy sustainment and enable clients to live independently.

The Role
The focus of this role is to offer an intensive housing management support service to vulnerable customers with the emphasis on preventing the adverse impact of vulnerability on this group, as well as delivering practical advice, intensive housing management support and assistance to the housing associations' customers and other clients to enable tenancy sustainment.
Other Key Responsibilities within the role will include:
-To provide intensive housing management support in the areas of repairs, investment and maintenance including liaising with contractor carrying out works on customers' properties, advice support and assistance on aids and adaptations, including completing relevant forms and paperwork. Including works in communal areas.
-To carry out full needs assessments with customers newly referred to the Service and draft individual support plans.
-To build effective joint working relationships with the customer and relevant service providers to ensure that the support plan is carried out to a high standard and is reviewed and updated on a regular basis.
-To provide practical assistance with all tasks related to moving and/or setting up a new home, such as arranging removals, connection of amenities, liaison with appropriate agencies to acquire essential furniture and applications for Community Care Grants/Loans.
-To offer customers specialist advice and assistance in relation to claiming appropriate welfare benefits, budgeting, debt and other money matters.
-To assist customers to access GP, health and local authority services and to participate fully in local community services, making use of leisure facilities, and maximising opportunities of social involvement.
-To assist customers to resolve housing and tenancy related problems, including reporting or assisting in the reporting of repairs. Where necessary, liaising with internal and external services to identify appropriate solutions and to provide assistance with these tasks that is available due to vulnerability.
-To maintain a personal caseload and manage case files as directed.
-To work with relevant colleagues, Housing Associations and Adult and Community Services to identify appropriate re-housing strategies where clients are unable to sustain their chosen form of tenure.

The Candidate
To be successful within this role, you will require previous working experience of working with vulnerable customers and/or housing issues and how these affect customers. You will also need good knowledge of a housing related services including welfare benefits and other support services. You will require an Enhanced DBS for this vacancy,

The Contracts
Initially this is a one month contract covering the role until a permanent member of staff is employed. The role is full time, working 37 hours per week, on Flexi-Time, between the hours of 8:00-20:00 Monday to Friday and 8:00-16:00 on Saturdays.
