Job description: I am currently recruiting for an Independent Living and Communities Officer based in Abingdon, Oxford. This is a full time role working 37 hours a week from 8:30am to 5:00pm. You must have an Enhanced DBS and driving licence to be considered for this role.

We are looking for a candidate with proven experience of in the provision of older person's services and excellent communication skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all work colleagues and residents. You will be a self-starter with a proactive approach and possess the ability to work without close supervision. Effective decision making skills, a diplomatic and confidential approach and having the ability to prioritise your workload are also key requirements of this position.

You will be responsible for supporting residents to maximise their independence and maintain their tenancies. You will also actively promote and build community resilience through the delivery of scheme based and local community activities which encourage resident involvement and engagement and responds to the growing risk of elderly and/or vulnerable isolation.

Your key duties will include :

*Work with vulnerable residents to maintain independence, wellbeing and build resilience, provide short-term intervention to resolve issues either directly or indirectly through advice, advocacy, liaison with external agencies and internal departments.
*To develop a specialist skill and knowledge area which supports the effective delivery of community work and can be offered to all our supported housing residents.
*To organise and promote a programme of activities, workshops and surgeries/drop-ins that encourage residents to become involved whilst also developing their skills to maintain independence.
*To work with partners and groups in the local community to organise, facilitate and promote an effective programme of community activities, workshops and surgeries/drop-ins to meet our objective of building community resilience in a sustainable way.
*Use a wide range of communication methods to effectively engage with stakeholders.
*Work collaboratively with housing and other relevant teams to align activities and support their work in the local neighbourhood.
*To manage on a day to day basis scheme based community resilience budgets.
