Infrastructure Officer

Job description: My Client, a local authority in Hull, is currently looking for 2 Infrastructure Assistants to work on a 4 month initial basis.

You will manage the operation of corporate ICT Infrastructure including the server and desktop assets, and be responsible for support, maintenance and minor upgrades to ensure resilience and optimal performance of all infrastructure systems and end-user devices.
You will provide 2nd and 3rd line support where a request cannot be facilitated by the service desk.
You will also work with Infrastructure and Unified Networks, and Business solutions teams to transition new ICT services into operation through change management whilst ensuring security and communication capacity to meet demand.


Main Accountabilities

* Supports the development of new services by providing input into solutions design and implementation. Works with the senior ICT colleagues to understand the cost and quality of security and unified network communication systems; identifies and implements improvements to achieve an optimum level of service.

* Ensures infrastructure resources, capabilities and capacity to meet both existing and new business demand. Ensures relevant people are informed about new and ongoing incidents and have timely access to Incident Reviews.

* Tracks service and operational level performance for infrastructure systems against agreed levels and manages remediation actions as necessary. Oversees service continuity planning and testing for infrastructure systems and ensures that these can be recovered within the required timelines; performs risk assessments and manages risks to prevent disasters.

* Owns and is accountable for all infrastructure systems. Leads and manages a support team to support the business. Acts as an escalation point for the teams for incidents and problems and member of Major Incident Support Team.

* Ensures day-to-day activities and checks as part of the ongoing maintenance of corporate infrastructure (including systems and software) are carried out in a timely manner and that a forward schedule of maintenance and upgrades is maintained.

* Manages 2nd and 3rd line support and effective disaster recovery processes with support activities and plans, ensuring business continuity. Undertakes problem management as required through analysis of repeated incidents.


Required Skills/Knowledge

*Several years of expert-level experience of ICT:
- Infrastructure systems development and/or procurement
- Infrastructure integration and customisation/re-engineering and configuration

* Expert experience surrounding infrastructure systems and data flow, and how it effects the operations of the organisation

* Experience of relevant infrastructure operations, including congruence with existing Council systems.

* Experience of Infrastructure systems/data integration and managing issues

* Experience of working in a infrastructure support systems role

* Experience in contributing towards feasibility-type studies or solutions to produce ideas and argue/contrast these to determine the best course of action

* Experienced in creating and modifying Group Policy

* Experienced in Windows Server Administration

* Admin and base image creation in VMWare
