Job description: My Client, a Housing Association in Newbury, is currently looking for a Database Administrator to work on an initial 3 month contract.

You will be delivering the highest levels of data availability and system stability in line with the company's BCP and recovery objectives. This includes responsibility for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.

Job Description

* Accountable for ensuring that data from unrated sources is integrated effectively and supports the business objectives and growth plans.

* Responsible for working closely with users, systems architects and developers to deliver solutions that are robust, intuitive and meet all customer requirements.

* Accountable for the design of data architecture and build of relational databases.

* Accountable for the support, maintenance, issue investigation and resolution as well as documentation of all the databases, including data standards,procedures and definitions for the data dictionary (metadata).

* Responsible for establishing the needs of users and monitoring of access and security. As well as managing the set parameters to provide fast query response for front end users.

* Accountable for mapping out the conceptual design for a planned database in outline, refining the logical design so that it can be translated into the specific data model.

* Responsible for communicating regularly with all Technical Staff to ensure database integrity and security.

* Accountable for ensuring that all backup and recovery processes are validated, understood, documented and tested regularly whilst maintaining all data retention and archiving processes. To include: development, management and thorough testing of all backup and recovery plans. All data should be retrievable in an emergency.

* Accountable for maintaining and developing a capacity plan and regularly report on performance of this whilst proactively highlighting all instances that potentially affect service.

* Accountable for performing routine database maintenance tasks. As follows: Available space checks, inspection of invalid objects and all alerts, checking of consistency, contention and performance issues and validating routine exports of data.

* Acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience, applying expert product knowledge and skills to solve a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations proactively identifying any coaching and training requirements to facilitate team growth and knowledge sharing.

* Accountable for managing customer/project requirements, deliverables and expectations to ensure the effective transition from project closure to operational support.

* Maintain positive, open and honest relationships with all members of the IT team, to challenge and champion effective behaviours and standards within IT best practice, service delivery, performance and value for money in all instances and in accordance to the client's values and behaviours.

* Accountable for maintaining all databases to correct versions and apply appropriate patches and upgrades in line with the IT departments change policy, as well as the release of code into UAT and then into the live environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

* Educated to degree level or equivalent through relevant work experience.
* Professional certification such as MCDBA / MCITP:DBA.
* Driving License.
* Significant experience of working with Microsoft Server technologies including SQL Server and Windows Server.
